When camera manufacturers moved from film to digital, they adopted a new standard image size. The dimensions of this new image size are in the ratio of 4:3 and do not fit evenly into many of the conventional size prints … the print areas are either a bit too wide on one side or too long on the other.

Shrink to Fit means that 100 percent of your image is on the print, but there may be white space that is not used because the image is a different shape.

Enlarge Photo means that your image has been enlarged to fill the entire print, so some of it may be off the edge of the print and not visible.

Tips:

•  When snapping a photo, make certain that important subject matter is not close to the bottom, top, or sides of your image.
•   Look for a print size that conforms exactly to your captured image size. Examples: 4.5” x 6”, or 6” x 8”. 
•   Understand your camera and what print format best fits your camera’s output.
•   Check to see if your camera offers the capture of an image in a conventional print size format.

You can change this setting for each print size.

We provide 3 cropping options on the website:

1) “Enlarge Photo to fill print” (Default)

By default all prints are set to Enlarge Photo to fill print (Auto Crop).  If you do not want white bars to appear on your prints - leave this setting as is. However - image elements close to the top/bottom and left/right sides may be cropped out to fit the final print proportions.  This may mean that a person's head or feet are moved out of the photo frame!! In such instances, the manual crop option (See below) is highly recommended.

2) "Shrink to Show" 

If seeing 100 percent of your image is crucial, select "Shrink to Show" on your print settings and trim the white bars to suit. Remember that the trimmed print will not fit a standard display photo frame. 

3) Manual Crop

Irrespective of which of the above two settings (Enlarge photo/Shrink to Show) have been applied to your set of prints, a manual adjustment of the crop for each photo can be done by clicking on Show details and the particular photo for which settings need to be adjusted

The Adjust Crop-> Crop to fill print option can be used to manually drag the crop window using the grips provided, to ensure that the subjects of interest are not cropped out. We strongly recommend the use of this option to get optimal results for all your photo prints.
